ABOUT JAN CAMPERT
A Dutch author, poet, journalist, and theatrical critic, he is best known for his 1941 poem, De achttien dooden (The Eighteen Dead).
He was born in the town of Spijkenisse and later lived in Amsterdam.
He died at Neuengamme concentration camp, where he had been sent by the Nazis for assisting Jews during the German Occupation of the Netherlands.
His son, Remco Campert , grew up to be a writer and poet.
He, like Polish author Jerzy Kosinski , was a World War II-era author.
