ABOUT JEAN-PIERRE MARTY

Musician whose concert career was shortened by severe muscular problems when he was only 20 after which he focused on conducting.

He succeeded the famed Nadia Boulanger as director of the American Conservatory in Fontainebleau.

He wrote The Tempo Indications of Mozart, Twenty-Four Lessons with Chopin, and The Piano Method of Chopin, all books based in either Mozart or Chopin musical philosophy.

His family recognized his talent early on. He began his career as an accompanist to cellist Pierre Fournier when he was 13.

His first teacher was Alfred Cortot .
