Earned the Barclays Golden Glove Award, given to the goal keeper with the most clean sheets, in 2011, 2012 and 2013 as a member of Manchester City .

He attended Meole Brace School Science College in Shrewsbury, where he graduated as Head Boy, and made his professional soccer debut at age 16.

He was a runner-up to James Milner for the PFA Young Player of the Year Award in 2010.

He was in a relationship with Kimberly Crew in 2012.

He became teammates with Frank Lampard on England's national team in 2008.
