Songwriter, singer, and composer who innovated the Colombian salsa and tropical music genre. His song "La Rebelión" was named one of the 15 Best Salsa Songs Ever by Billboard in 2018. A joearroyoficial TikTok account created in his honor has over 60,000 followers.
His first credit as a professional singer was on Manuel Villanueva Y Su Orquesta's album Hasta La Madrugada....! in 1970.
He formed the group Joe Arroyo y La Verdad in 1981, which recorded more than 20 albums until 2007. The RCN Network created the soap opera El Joe, la Leyenda based on his life in 2011.
His mother Ángela González worked as a hotel manager.
He and actress Rita Moreno both won the Latin Grammy Lifetime Achievement Award.
