Best known for writing Santa Claus Is Coming to Town and composing the music for For All We Know. He wrote more than 700 songs.

He started out as a pianist and stock boy in a music shop.

He was inducted into the Songwriters Hall of Fame in 1972.

He grew up in New York City where his mother taught him how to play the piano.

He collaborated on the song Santa Claus Is Coming to Town with Haven Gillespie .
