Classical musician whose successful recording and performing career featured the works of Brahms, Rachmaninoff, and Beethoven.
He attended the Royal College of Music where he studied under German pianist and composer Wilhelm Kempff .
His hands were slashed by muggers during a robbery attempt in 2000. His career resumed soon thereafter.
His family recognized his talent early on, and his first piano recital occurred when he was nine.
His 1963 London debut at the Royal Festival Hall was highly praised. He played Ludwig van Beethoven 's Piano Concerto No. 5.
