The host of the influential Alcoa Presents show, which purported to show dramatic re-enactments of true-life tales of the supernatural.
He was a song and dance man on the vaudeville stage, appearing with as part of the gold-cape-draped Vikings troupe.
Though running for only three years, his show had nearly 100 episodes and was the forerunner to modern sci-fi and supernatural series like The X-Files.
He grew up in Cincinnati, Ohio.
He directed one early episode of The Man from U.N.C.L.E., starring Robert Vaughn .
