ABOUT JOHN PATTON
American soul jazz musician who recorded with Blue Note and with musicians like Grant Green , Lou Donaldson , and George Coleman . His nickname is Big John Patton.
He taught himself to play the piano when he was growing up in Missouri and later moved to Washington where he began working with Lloyd Price and learned the Hammond organ.
He performed on the album Red Hot + Indigo, a tribute to Duke Ellington that raised money for charities devoted to HIV/AIDS awareness.
He was married to Thelma Patton.
He collaborated with John Zorn and was featured on two of his albums.
