John Rousakis
ABOUT JOHN ROUSAKIS
Politician and member of the Democratic party who was mayor of Savannah, Georgia from 1970 to 1991.
He played basketball in his youth and also worked as an insurance agent before serving on the Chatham County Commission in 1965.
Although he successfully updated the Savannah public works projects and the police department during his tenure, housing problems worsened and the murder rate increased.
His first wife, Irene, died in 1985. He later was remarried to Elizabeth Lattimore in 1987.
He played a small role in the 1976 Burt Reynolds film, Gator.
