Award-winning jazz artist whose musicality was informed by his initial interest in blues, classical music, and garage rock.
He resided in Park Slope, Brooklyn, during the 1990s, where he participated in afternoon jam sessions that he credited with developing his creativity, thanks to the musicians' focus on experimentation.
He won two Juno Awards for his 1988 album Sky Dance, which featured legendary saxophonist Joe Henderson .
His parents were jazz enthusiasts, and his father Fred was a pianist. He was introduced to the recordings of many jazz greats because of them.
He and his mother attended an Oscar Peterson concert when he was just five, but it had a profound impact on him.
