ABOUT JUAN FORMELL
Cuban bassist, composer and musical arranger who came to the public's attention as the director of the group Los Van Van. He is credited with bringing the concept of electronic instrumentation to Cuba.
He began working as a musician in cabaret orchestras in 1957.
He won a 1999 Grammy Award for Best Salsa Performance for Llego...Van Van - Van Van Is Here.
His sons' names are Samuel and Juan.
Rudy Sarzo and Cachao López are other well-known bassists who were born in Cuba.
