ABOUT JUAN FRANCISCO LUIS
Famed politician who served as the third Governor of the U.S. Virgin Islands from 1978 to 1987.
A graduate of the Interamerican University of Puerto Rico, he served in the U.S. Army in 1968 (as a sergeant) prior to entering politics.
He successfully lobbied for federal funds that were used in the construction of most of the U.S. Virgin Islands' modern hospitals.
He had two children with Luz Maria Luis.
He and comedian Ramon Rivero were both of Puerto Rican descent.
