Produced Taxi Driver and The Sting and was also the first female producer to win an Academy Award for Best Film. She produced The Beat, The Boost, and Don't Tell Mom the Babysitter's Dead .
She studied at Mount Holyoke College and then worked for some time editing magazine articles.
She died from cancer on New Year's Day in West Hollywood in 2002. She had a small role in the 1977 sci-fi film Close Encounters of the Third Kind .
She married Michael Phillips whom she met in 1965.
She collaborated with such legends as Robert De Niro .
