He served as Permanent Representative of Grenada to the World Trade Organization (WTO) in Geneva from 2021 to 2023. In October 2024, he was appointed Prime Minister of Liberland, a self-proclaimed micronation between Serbia and Croatia.

He studied history at Peking University and East Asian studies at the University of Pennsylvania .

In November 2024, Sun purchased a conceptual artwork of a banana duct-taped to a wall by Maurizio Cattelan for $5.2 million at auction and then ate the banana onstage.
