Born Brian McCook, she is famous for competing on the seventh season of RuPaul's Drag Race . Although she was eliminated before the finale, she won the title of Miss Congeniality. She went on to compete on the second season of RuPaul's Drag Race: All Stars and appear on the World of Wonder web series UNHhhh.

She joined Twitter in 2010 and, by June 2015, had 55,000 followers, as well as 175,000 Instagram followers.

Her stage name combines the names of three Russian gymnastics champions: Elena Zamolodchikova, Yekaterina (Katya) Lobaznyuk, and Yevgeniya Petrovna Kuznetsova.

Brian is a native of Boston, Massachusetts, though the alter-ego, Katya, hails from Russia. She has an older brother and a younger sister.

She has frequently collaborated with fellow drag queen Trixie Mattel in a variety of forms including a web series, podcast, and a book.
