Japanese tennis player who was named ATP Newcomer of the Year in 2008. He reached his first major finals at the 2014 US Open, where he was defeated by Marin Cilic .

He was five years old when he started playing tennis.

He became known for his endurance and speed on the court.

He was raised with an older sister named Reina.

In 2011, he was coached by Brad Gilbert , who formerly coached Andy Roddick .
