American actress best known for starring in the 1980s films Top Gun, Witness , and The Accused . She did not appear in the 2022 sequel to Top Gun, Top Gun: Maverick . She has amassed over 50 acting credits throughout her long career.

She studied acting at Juilliard School.

She made her big-screen debut in the 1983 film Reuben, Reuben. In 2020, she appeared in one episode of the TV series Dirty John .

She married Fred Tillman in 1989, and the couple had two daughters before divorcing in 2002. She was also married to Boyd Black from 1979 to 1981. She was married to Melanie Leis from 2010 to 2011.

She portrayed Charlotte "Charlie" Blackwood alongside Tom Cruise 's Pete "Maverick" Mitchell in the popular 1986 film Top Gun.
