Indian director of the 2011 movie Mumbai Diaries (Dhobi Ghat). She also served as an assistant director on the Oscar-nominated film Swades: We, the People and on the popular Hindi film Monsoon Wedding.
She studied economics and communications in her native India.
Her film Swades didn't fare well in India, but was a hit overseas.
She was born into royalty; her grandfather was the Raja of Wanaparthy.
She met her future husband, Aamir Khan , on the set of the film Lagaan.
