American politician who is best known for serving as the Mayor of New Orleans, Louisiana since May 7, 2018. She is a Democrat and the first woman to hold the office. Her Instagram account mayorcantrell has gained over 120,000 followers.
In 1990, she moved to New Orleans to attend Xavier University of Louisiana, where she earned a BA in sociology. She also attended an executive training program at the Harvard Kennedy School.
From 2012 to 2018, she represented District B on the New Orleans City Council. She was succeeded by Jay Banks.
She is married to Jason Cantrell and they have a daughter named RayAnn Cantrell.
She and Cobie Smulders share a birthday.
