She began her career as a desk assistant at KCOP-TV in Los Angeles.

She was a regular contributor on shows including Larry King Live and The Joy Behar Show. She has appeared in a number of films and TV shows, mostly playing news reporters and journalists.

In 2001, her son Nikko was born from her relationship with Tony Gonzalez . In August 2005, she married Patrick Whitesell . They had a son named Evan and a daughter named Ella. In May 2023, she was engaged to Jeff Bezos . They held an extravagant Venice ceremony for their wedding in June 2025.

In 2015, she played a newscaster in the film Ted 2 which starred Mark Wahlberg and Seth MacFarlane .
