ABOUT LEN BIAS

He was a dominant forward at the University of Maryland and was expected to be an NBA superstar, but he died of an overdose just two days after getting drafted into the NBA.

He developed a long list of accolades while at Maryland, including an All-American first and second team selection, and two ACC Player of the Year awards.

He was the second overall pick in 1986 by the Boston Celtics and was considered by many to be the most promising player to come out of the NCAA since Michael Jordan .

His parents were James and Lonise Bias, and his brother, Jay Bias III also tragically died at a young age.

Celtics legend and then General Manager Red Aurebach spoke at his funeral, after having just drafted him.
