ABOUT LEO LIONNI
Italian children's writer and illustrator best known for using the art of collage in his illustrations. His 1962 book Inch By Inch won the Lewis Carroll Shelf Award.
Before beginning his writing career, he worked as an art director for several East Coast advertising agencies and for Fortune magazine.
As an ad executive, he worked on accounts for the Ford and Chrysler motor companies.
He married Nora Maffi whose father founded the Italian Communist Party, and they had two children together.
While working in advertising, he commissioned work from a young Andy Warhol .
