ABOUT LEONARD SHURE
Highly respected and beloved concert musician and educator who was Artur Schnabel's first and only assistant.
He made his United States debut in 1933 with the Boston Symphony Orchestra under the direction of Serge Koussevitsky.
He had a lengthy teaching career with positions at the Cleveland Institute of Music, the Mannes School of Music, the New England Conservatory of Music, and administered Harvard University's first applied music courses.
He would as a child sing coloratura arias while his mother accompanied him from the Flo Ziegfeld Follies pit.
His soloist career was legendary, performing with all of the United States' major symphony orchestras and working with esteemed conductors like Leonard Bernstein .
