Lyricist known for Stop, Look, Listen, Break Up to Make Up, and The Greatest Love of All. She wrote many hits for the Spinners.

She was a secretary at a publishing company. Her career took off when Free Girl was recorded in 1970 by Dusty Springfield .

She was posthumously inducted into the Songwriters Hall of Fame in 1992.

She married Stephen Lee Epstein in 1972. The couple had two daughters together.

She frequently collaborated with Thom Bell . They produced some of Philadelphia's most successful 1970s soul groups.
