ABOUT LLOYD POWELL
Musician and educator known for his mastery of Charles Ives and Ludwig van Beethoven . He worked for Jeunesses Musicales Canada from 1966 to 1967.
He was awarded the Hopkinson Gold Medal for piano performance and the Dannreuther Prize for the best piano concerto performance while a student at the Royal College of Music.
He settled in Canada in 1951 where he remained for the rest of his life, becoming a fixture on the CBC.
He was born in Ironbridge, Shropshire, to Welsh parents.
He instructed Isador Goodman while Professor of Pianoforte at the Royal College of Music, inspiring her to become a better pianist by teaching others the art.
