Known as the Father of Cinematography for inventing moving pictures on paper film using a single lens camera.
He directed the short film Roundhay Garden Scene.
His legacy was honored when the University of Leeds named its center for photography and cinema after him.
He married Elizabeth Whitley in 1869. He disappeared in 1890, never to be found or seen again.
He was a contemporary of Thomas Edison .
