ABOUT LUBKA KOLESSA
Classical musician who had a successful recording and performing career on both sides of the Atlantic. She taught composer John Hawkins.
Her studies with famed composer Eugen d'Albert from 1929 until 1930 greatly impacted her musicality.
She was on British television as early as 1937, where she appeared to perform a concert in Ukrainian folk dress.
She was born into a prominent Ukrainian intellectual family who was also very musical: her uncle was famed ethnomusicologist Filaret Kolessa and her cousin was renowned composer and conductor Mykola Kolessa, while her sister Chrystia Kolessa was a celebrated cellist.
She recorded Variations and Fugue on a Theme by Handel by Johannes Brahms .
