ABOUT MARIA MALIBRAN
Spanish contralto and soprano opera singer who is known as one of the foremost opera performers of the 20th century. A wide variety of her possessions have been preserved at the Royal Conservatory of Brussels in the Maria Malibran fund.
Her father Manuel García , a famous tenor in his own right, schooled her in singing. She repeatedly clashed with him.
A bronze plaque was installed with her likeness outside of Teatre Principal, Barcelona in 1847. She was most closely associated with the operas of Gioachino Rossini , who praised her talent.
Her father originated the role of Count Almaviva in the Rossini opera The Barber of Seville.
Cecilia Bartoli 's 2007 album Maria was dedicated to her.
