Striker who was named German Footballer of the Year in 2007. He signed with Fiorentina in 2013 after playing 4 years with Bayern Munich.

He began his youth career with SSV Ulm 1846 at age 14.

He joined the German national team in 2007 and helped lead the team to a third-place finish in the 2010 World Cup.

He dated Silvia Meichel from 2003 to 2012. He married Carina Wanzung in 2016.

He was the second-highest scorer in the Euro 2012 Cup, after striker Fernando Torres .
