In 1972, she received an English degree from Augustana College.

She competed in Miss America as Miss South Dakota, placing in the top-10.

She married Burt Sugarman in 1989 and the couple had a son named Alec together.

In 1981, she co-hosted alongside Regis Philbin on his first national talk show on NBC.
