ABOUT MATHEW BARZAL

Centre who was selected with the sixteenth overall pick in the 2015 NHL Entry Draft by the New York Islanders . He had previously won gold representing Canada at the 2014 Ivan Hlinka Memorial Tournament. For the 2017-2018 season, he was awarded the Calder Memorial Trophy as top rookie.

He initially played for the Seattle Thunderbirds of the WHL. He was drafted first overall by the team in 2012 and developed into an NHL prospect.

In 2014, he helped Team Canada's Under-18 team win the bronze medal in the IIHF World U18 Championships. In September 2015, he signed a 3-year entry-level contract with the Islanders. In October 2017, he set an Islanders record for assists by a rookie in a single game when he recorded 5 assists against the Colorado Avalanche .

He was born and raised in Coquitlam, British Columbia, Canada. His father's name is Mike. He has a sister named Liana.

He was drafted to the New York Islanders team, coached by Jack Capuano . He has been teammates with defenceman Sebastian Aho on the Islanders.
