The former Chief Strategist for the 2004 Bush-Cheney re-election campaign, who later became a contributor to the National Journal.

He began his career as a Democrat, but switched to the Republican party in 1999.

He grew disillusioned with President George W. Bush after what he considered a mishandling of the Iraq War.

He has a son named Daniel and a daughter named Josephine.

After the 2004 presidential election, he has not been on speaking terms with members of the Bush administration, including adviser Karl Rove .
