ABOUT MAURICE BISHOP
Aruba-born politician who served as Prime Minister of Grenada from 1979-1983. His government was ultimately overthrown, and he was executed.
He received his law degree from the University of London and subsequently headed a Marxist movement in Grenada called the New Jewel Movement.
The much-criticized People’s Revolutionary Army came into existence in Grenada during the period of Bishop's leadership.
With his wife, Angela Redhead Bishop, he had two children. He had a third child -- Vladimir Lenin Bishop -- through his relationship with Grenadian Minister of Education Jacqueline Creft.
United States President Ronald Reagan feared Bishop's Communist ties to Cuba and the Soviet Union.
