ABOUT MERT LAWWILL

Dirt and road racer who won the 1969 A.M.A. Grand National Championship and was voted AMA's Most Popular Rider of the Year.

He started as an amateur racer in Boise, Idaho before moving to California and turning professional in 1963.

He developed a prosthetic that allows amputees to ride a motorcycle.

He married June Lawwill in 1965.

He appeared with Steve McQueen in the 1971 motorcycle film On Any Sunday.
