Mia Mottley

ABOUT MIA MOTTLEY

Politician who has gained fame as Prime Minister of Barbados and leader of the Barbados Labour Party. She is particularly notable for leading Barbados' transition from a monarchy to a republic.

She earned a law degree from the London School of Economics in 1986.

She was named Person of the Year by Caribbean National Weekly in 2020.

Her grandfather Ernest Deighton Mottley was a real estate broker and politician. Her father Elliott Deighton Mottley was also a politician.

In 1994, she assumed the role of Minister of Education, Youth Affairs and Culture under Prime Minister Owen Arthur .
