His first major role was in the 2001 film Little Secrets, which starred Evan Rachel Wood .

He had a large role in the 2005 cult classic film Lords of Dogtown as Sid.

He dated Speak co-star Kristen Stewart from 2004 to 2008. He began dating actress Juno Temple in 2012, but by 2016, they had broken up. He and his fiancee Maya Erskine had a son named Leon Frederick in 2021. They officially married in early 2024.

He played Sean Hayes ' son on the popular sitcom Will & Grace .
