ABOUT MICHAEL BASMAN

Chess player who became known as an International Master in 1980. He is the author of several books on chess, including 1989's "The Killer Grob."

He was born in London and his family name was originally Basmadjian.

He is the creator of the U.K. Chess Challenge tournament for young chess players.

His father emigrated from Armenia to the U.K..

He lost to William Hartson at the 1973 British Chess Championships.
