He was awarded the Alfredo Casella prize when he was only 19.
He was especially known for his interpretations of Liszt and was given the Grand Prix du Disque of the Franz Liszt Society in 1976, 1977, and 1998.
His family was living in Naples when he was born.
He recorded the works of many composers, including Pyotr Ilyich Tchaikovsky .
