ABOUT MIKE HAWTHORN

Became the first UK Formula One World Champion following his 1958 victory at the Formula One Championship. He finished his career with 3 wins and 18 podiums.

He made his debut in 1950 at the Brighton Speed Trials driving a 1934 Riley Ulster Imp and two years later made his Formula One debut with a 4th place finish.

He retired following his championship run due to his teammates passing during the German Grand Prix. He is also known for the 1955 Le Mans disaster.

He was engaged to Jean Ireland at the time of his fatal car accident that did not occur while racing.

His friend Peter Collins died while racing like NASCAR legend Dale Earnhardt .
