Notable early 20th-century lyricist who was inducted into the Songwriters Hall of Fame.
He sold his first song, That Old Gang of Mine, in 1923.
He was known for singles like "Bye Bye Blackbird," "I'm Looking Over a Four Leaf Clover," "I Found a Million Dollar Baby," and many others.
He fathered two daughters, Estelle and Evonne, with his first wife Ada Gittlesohn. He was later married to Eldora Wimsby, whom had a son from a previous coupling.
He co-wrote 10 songs with Harry Woods from 1927 to 1931.
