ABOUT NAHEED NENSHI

Became the first Muslim mayor of Calgary, Alberta, and the first Muslim mayor of any major North American city. His campaign for mayor heavily relied on social media websites such as Facebook and Twitter. He became the Leader of the Alberta New Democratic Party in June 2024.

He lived with his family from Tanzania.

He donated a portion of his salary to a Calgary charity for computer-aided design systems. His political fame has led him to amass more than 70,000 Instagram followers.

Although his family is from Tanzania, his parents are South-Asian origin immigrants. He has a sister named Shaheen.

He was in favor of Canada's 22nd Prime Minister Stephen Harper building the Keystone Pipeline.
