British television personality who is known for hosting his 1960's TV show That Was The Week That Was.
He was in the army but soon attended Oxford, where he studied law.
He produced ten films, wrote novels, plays, musicals and produced the TV series TW3.
He was born into a Somerset farming family and became an avowed monarchist. He died from head and neck cancer.
He wrote a revue at Oxford starring Maggie Smith .
