Director who oversaw Candyman and The Marvels . In a 2018 interview, she defined her work as aiming to show women in more active roles and less as passive figures led by men. She is the youngest filmmaker to ever direct a Marvel Comics film.

Apocalypse Now inspired her to become a filmmaker. She studied at New York University Tisch School of the Arts.

Martin Scorsese was one of her idols, and she met him while working as a TV production assistant.

She was raised in Brooklyn, New York.

She co-wrote Candyman with Jordan Peele .
