English author whose 1995 novel The Horse Whisperer became one of the best-selling novels of all time with sales exceeding fifteen million copies. He went on to write critically-acclaimed books like The Loop and The Smoke Jumper. He wrote a total of 5 published books before his death at 72.
He attended Oxford University and worked as a newspaper journalist.
He had to undergo a kidney transplant after he and his family ate deadly webcap mushrooms. He was diagnosed with melanoma in the 1990s but was able to recover.
He married singer-songwriter Charlotte Gordon Cumming. He had children named Max, Henry, and Lauren.
His novel The Horse Whisperer was made into a hit film in 1998 directed by, produced by, and starring Robert Redford .
