Hall of Fame NFL middle linebacker who played for the Boston Patriots from 1962 until 1968 and the Miami Dolphins from 1969 until 1976.

He was initially deemed too small by NFL scouts.

He made an immediate impact when drafted and was voted AFL Rookie of the Year in 1962.

His son Marc suffered a paralyzing spinal cord injury in 1985 while playing for The Citadel.

He made his first NFL Pro Bowl game in 1973, and OJ Simpson was named the game's MVP.
