ABOUT PAUL GANN
Activist who founded a conservative organization called People's Advocate, Inc. He was one of the authors of Proposition 13, which proposed a reduction in California property taxes.
He was defeated by Democrat Alan Cranston in the 1980 California United States Senate race.
He contracted the HIV virus through a blood transfusion and died in the late 1980s from complications of the disease.
Born and raised in Clark County, Arkansas, he later settled in Sacramento, California.
He and Kevin Powell were both well-known political activists.
