English musician and composer whose primary instrument was the synthesizer. He was once part of 1980s dance bands Direct Drive and First Light.

His career started in the 1980s, after his song "Rain Forest," a funky/electronic hybrid, launched him into the national consciousness.

His music dominated the Jazz Charts. In fact, his song "Touch and Go," a collaboration with his son, became his 10th No. 1 song on the chart.

He fathered three children with his wife Dolores Baker: Maxine, Paul Jr., and Ritchie.

He remixed songs for a variety of artists, including disco great Barry White .
