Television producer and CBS executive who helped bring to the screen M*A*S*H, All in the Family, and other classics.
He studied piano at the Yale School of Music and lived in New York working as a radio director-producer before moving into television.
He brought to NBC the movie An Early Frost, which aired in 1985 and was among the first to tackle the issue of AIDS.
His family raised him in Davenport, Iowa.
His groundbreaking sitcom All in the Family, starring Carroll O'Connor , began in 1971 and addressed the issue of racism in almost every episode.
