Director of Jean-Claude Van Damme vehicles Timecop and Sudden Death, as well as the science fiction cult classic Outland.
He worked as a producer and anchorman for the TV station WHDH-TV.
He wrote, produced, and directed the film 2010, which is a sequel to the classic science fiction film 2001: A Space Odyssey.
His son John Hyams was also a film director.
He directed Arnold Schwarzenegger in 1999's End of Days.
