ABOUT PHILIP RASTELLI

American mobster known as the former boss of the Bonanno crime family, one of the five crime families in New York. He was in prison for all of three years as leader of the family.

He was involved in loansharking, extortion, and drug smuggling before joining the Bonanno family. He was allegedly involved in the shooting of Michael Russo in 1953 which prompted him to go into hiding. He was put on a three-man panel to run the family in 1969.

He went to prison twice. He was first put in prison on extortion charges in 1976 and let out in 1983. In 1984, he was indicted on parole violations and charged with labor racketeering in 1986. He stayed in prison until 1991.

He was born in Masbeth, Queens. He lived in Greenpoint, Brooklyn until his incarceration. He was married to a woman named Connie

Joseph Bonanno had retired as the leader of the crime family before he took over.
